The L.M. Montgomery Institute is housed at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), a post-secondary institution whose forebears were St. Dunstan’s University and Prince of Wales College (Montgomery’s own alma mater).
MANDATE:
The L.M. Montgomery Institute is dedicated to helping students and scholars learn about and study L.M. Montgomery’s life, works, and influence. The Institute is a centre for Montgomery studies with a focus on academic scholarship and a centre for the promotion of L.M. Montgomery with a focus on education, teaching, and increasing awareness of the author.
ABOUT UPEI:
Created by the provincial government in 1969, UPEI is a non-denominational, liberal arts institution that provides a range of programs in the Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Music, and Education.
The university’s Atlantic Veterinary College is one of four institutions in Canada offering a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree; the new School of Nursing offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. UPEI maintains strong links with local and international communities and serves as a resource for private and public sector research and education.
As an independent institute within UPEI, the L.M. Montgomery Institute welcomes gifts and donations. Tax receipts are issued by UPEI. The L.M. Montgomery Institute office is located in the Robertson Library, near the centre of the UPEI campus.
LIASONS:
The L.M. Montgomery Institute liaises with both on-campus groups and organizations in the greater community in order to further its goals of research and education. Two groups with which the Institute works on a regular basis are the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery Inc. and the L.M. Montgomery Heritage Society.
